Dragon was one of several official magazines published to support Dungeons & Dragons, typically paired with Dungeon magazine. Dungeon released various adventure material, while Dragon released new characters, classes, races, lore, and other supplemental material, as well as rule clarifications, and other news and reviews from other companies in the RPG industry.

Dragon launched in 1976 and published monthly until its final printed issue, #359, in September 2007. The magazine was resumed from that point as an online-only magazine, until it too came to an end with issue #430 in 2013.

A digital successor, Dragon+, was launched in 2015, but its numbering was restarted at #1.

Background Information

• Although Dragon came first, Dungeon was chosen to go alongside it as a reference to the Dungeons & Dragons name. This reference was continued in 2007 following the end of the printed material, with the creation of an "Ampersand" editorial column on the WotC website.
